Climate Change: Heat and Worker Health – A Practical Guide for Companies

Developed by Instituto Ar with the support of Instituto Itaúsa and in partnership with the São Paulo Association of Occupational Medicine (APMT), this guide directs the private sector to recognize heat as a structural occupational hazard—one projected to intensify significantly due to climate change, with direct impacts on health, safety, productivity, and operational sustainability. It was created for professionals responsible for risk management, occupational health, workplace safety, and corporate governance to assist in adapting processes and protecting workers amidst a hotter and more unpredictable climate.

The guide presents evidence regarding the impacts of heat on health, safety, and productivity; details the legal framework and corporate responsibility; and offers practical recommendations for heat management. The aim is to move beyond reactive responses toward a preventive, integrated, and forward-looking approach to managing heat-related risks.
